Traverse City’s Best Kept Secret

Traverse City is well known for its Cherry Festival, which takes place each summer at the beginning of July. While the Cherry Festival is a fantastic experience, what if we told you there’s another cherry-related activity that lets you take in the natural beauty of Traverse City, avoids the peak-season crowds, and doesn’t come with the premium prices of summer cottage rentals?

From late April to mid-May, the Traverse City area comes alive with the bloom of cherry blossoms! These tart cherry trees produce bright white and pink blossoms that contrast beautifully against the bright blue skies of Old Mission Peninsula. One of our favorite spring traditions is taking a scenic drive along M-22 and M-37 with the windows down, breathing in the crisp spring air, and soaking up the long-awaited sunshine.

The Anchor Inn is conveniently located right on M-22, just 15 minutes from some of the best cherry blossom viewing spots. After a day of exploring, you can return to your cottage and see our very own blossoms, which also bloom from late April to mid-May. In spring, our lawn is covered with lush green grass, bright sunshine and surrounded by beautiful white blossoms.

The cherry blossoms usually reach their peak for about one to two weeks, depending on the weather. This Blossom Tour Guide from Traverse City Tourism provides a detailed map of the best viewing locations, along with insights on the factors that affect bloom timing.

As spring approaches, we look forward to warmer days, sunshine, and the stunning scenery Northern Michigan has to offer. We can’t wait to welcome you this season!

Love,

George and Alyssa
